Babymoons are Legendary at ‘Tween Waters Inn

If you’re a parent-to-be, have you thought about going on a babymoon? It’s more than a trend, it’s your last chance for a romantic getaway with your spouse before baby makes three!

‘Tween Waters Inn is the ideal destination to celebrate your upcoming bundle of joy and bask in the glow…of your pregnancy. For starters, treat yourself to a pre-natal massage at The Spa at ‘Tween Waters. It’s nearly one hour of pure bliss and it’s safe for baby. Walks on the beach are made for the two of you, and while it might be near impossible to sit in the sand, you can surely relax in a chaise lounger (with your swollen ankles up), sip a virgin daiquiri, and witness a famous Captiva sunset.

When it’s time to indulge your cravings, make reservations at Captiva House for the most romantic meal on the island. While sushi and alcohol may be on your list of things to avoid, there’s an entire menu of gourmet cuisine to please your palate. Or, if you’re hankering for a great burger, walk over to the casual and fun Crow’s Nest. (For dessert, you can’t go wrong with locally made Queenie’s Ice Cream, so rich and creamy!)

I’d also suggest making an appointment with local photographer, Milissa Sprecher for a baby bump photography session, because while you may feel like you’re carrying around a 30-pound basketball, you’ve never looked more beautiful.

It’s true, babymoons and ‘Tween Waters Inn go hand-in-hand, like peas and carrots (which you’ll soon be serving a lot of, from baby food jars). Congratulations to both of you! (And thank you to my fellow blogger friend, Kara Franker and her husband Jeremy for letting me share a photo of their pregnancy announcement. Lola is expected to arrive in January 2017.)

Anniversary at ‘Tween Waters Inn

I love, love. I love celebrating love. I hate trying to come up with unique ways to demonstrate the depth of my love.

For my wedding, people were asked to write down pieces of advice for the happy couple. At the time, most of the advice was innocuous — don’t fight about the toilet seat, don’t go to bed angry, and always celebrate holidays and special moments. These seemed like common sense, and after living with my then boyfriend for seven years, I knew the toilet seat and angry bed rule, but the celebrating specials moments seemed like a no brainer. Of course I would celebrate our anniversary! Why wouldn’t you? Of course when February 14 came along, I would think of my loved one. Why wouldn’t you?

Now in my third year of marriage, I’ve realized that it’s a lot more difficult to devise unique ways to celebrate our love — I thought about throwing in the “celebration” towel completely. I was stumped for a traditional “leather” gift, or any gift for that matter. Frantic, I stayed up all night scanning homemade Etsy pages and Pinterest boards for “anniversary” gifts and ideas. Frustrated, I went to Instagram to lose myself in mindless photos of friends’ dinner tables, when I came upon a ‘Tween Waters Inn image of the sunset with the claim of “America’s Most Romantic Sunset.” It was a great reminder that I had a romantic resource right at my fingertips!

When I contacted ‘Tween Waters Inn to find out how they might make my anniversary special, they had a multitude of suggestions from beginning to end of my mini-vacation. It started out with champagne in the room upon arrival, and then delectable dinner for two at Captiva House. If you’re celebrating an anniversary, Chef Jason Miller will include free dessert with champagne purchase.

For our second day, I scheduled a relaxing couple’s massage with Georgie, the Spa at ‘Tween Waters Inn manager. From what I hear from Innsiders Lyle and Michele, she’d have us relaxed into a bleary-eyed-, can-hardly-walk-out-of-the-spa-state. For our final evening, I thought I would keep things light with a romantic picnic basket for the beach to complement “America’s Most Romantic Sunset.”

INNSIDER TIP: Anniversary couples might also try renting bikes or a kayak at the marina for additional action.

Like with every two-night vacation, the resort also included the standard $100-value resort coupon book, free breakfast, free wifi, free parking, daily newspaper and no-resort fees. Booking all of this was as easy as calling the friendly reservationists at 800-223-5865. They’ll even work to coordinate your spa reservations and picnic basket, and keep it all a secret from your loved one.

After that, it was easy as call, confirm and keep it a secret. Rather than frantic and frustrated, I was now enthused with the idea of celebrating our anniversary. While I didn’t quite find my typical “leather” gift for our third anniversary, I don’t think my husband will mind when he has a drink in hand and ocean waves as his backdrop. Three years down, only roughly 62 left to celebrate. (Which reminds me, I should probably call ‘Tween Waters Inn to set up next year’s anniversary celebration too).

Sunset Picnic Baskets at ‘Tween Waters Inn

Just when you thought the sunsets on Captiva couldn’t possibly get any better—leave it ‘Tween Waters Inn Resort to make them even more spectacular. How? With the ability to pre-order a sunset picnic basket.

I thought a sunset picnic would be a great way to jazz up our usual ‘grab a beach towel and sit on the sand’ sunset routine. And jazz it up, it did!

Plus, the entire process was so easy. All I had to do was call at least 24 hours in advance to reserve our basket; answer a few questions as to whether we wanted shrimp cocktail or crab claws; red or white wine (Merlot, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, or Chandon Sparkling); and what time we wanted to pick up our basket at Captiva House restaurant.

In addition to the fresh seafood and wine, the baskets are overflowing with seasonal fruits like strawberries, grapes, bananas, pears and apples; an entire container of everyone’s favorite sliced and cubed cheeses, a sleeve of gourmet crackers, all the lemons and sauces you’ll need, even snack bars for dessert.

There was so much food in the basket, four of us ate and we still had leftovers. The price is only $75 plus tax and gratuity and you can keep the basket if you want. You can even have it billed directly to your room.

The sunset picnic baskets are BYOB—Bring Your Own Blanket—and if you’re bringing the kids along like we did, you’ll want to pack some drinks for them to enjoy.

I have to admit, I’m a little spoiled now. I’m not sure I can simply go back to my beach towel on the sand after I’ve had chilled shrimp with lemon wedges and huge, hulled strawberries. Honey, can we do that again?

IN THE NEWS: Captiva is for Lovers

istock_000000786091largeMaybe this isn’t news to all of you who’ve honeymooned, celebrated anniversaries or simply shared a vacation of a lifetime at the legendary ‘Tween Waters Inn Island Resort, but another noted travel writer has planted a kiss of praise on Captiva Island and ‘Tween Waters Inn. As Libby McMillian writers on Examiner.com, “Southwest Florida’s tiny Captiva Island is easy to reach and really provides that ‘other-world’ feeling so necessary for unplugging.

The minute you cross the last tiny bridge, come onto the island and witness the Gulf in front of you, you know you’re somewhere special.” She goes on to give ‘Tween Waters Inn three plugs as the place to play and stay on Captiva.
