Some Shuffleboard Excitement Is Perfect For Today!

.
It’s true. Just watch how the competition of the game makes the playing more fun!
.
Times may have changed but we discovered that shuffleboard has not changed on a visit to ‘Tween Waters Inn. Walking around the first evening we noticed a Shuffleboard Court beside the tennis courts near the pool. The area located below the Athletic Center also has a Bocce Court where guests toss balls and play the European version of horseshoes many people know well.
.
.
Living nearby for many years my husband, Eric and I both remember seeing local seniors playing on the shuffleboard courts overlooking the river marina in downtown Fort Myers. Growing up in Florida, I fondly remember playing on community shuffleboard courts as a kid and not having any idea what we were doing. Many of the shuffleboard clubs around Florida today were founded in the early 1900’s. Shuffleboard and bocce are both played around the world and over 500 years ago throughout the Roman Empire.

Before starting we grabbed frozen drinks from the Oasis Pool Bar and then we let the games begin. We had a relaxing good time together and talked about hosting a group of friends or family for a long weekend and holding our own tournament just for fun.
..
It turns out that the triangle painted at each end of the court is the ‘target’ and the numbers are the ‘points’ a player gets for landing in a particular area. As players launch their biscuits down the court, the biscuits shuffle around when one slides and bumps opponents on the other end. So much for kids play without a care for the scoring, because the competition for points got interesting.
.
.
For guests who like more aerobics in their game, ‘Tween Waters Inn has a Volleyball net on the beach. Now there’s a workout… I like to watch volleyball and get some sun when I hang out on the beach. I can’t say who won our weekend shuffleboard tournament at ‘Tween Waters Inn but it was likely my husband who had the better shuffleboard skills. Me, I’m generally focused on having a great time.
.
On your next visit to Captiva Island to relax – make time for some shuffleboard and enjoy.
