CAPTIVA ISLAND, FL – Thanksgiving weekend visitors to Captiva Island will enjoy a festive helping of holiday spirit, island style, thanks to the many Captiva Holiday Village festivities planned during the event’s kickoff weekend The four-week-long Captiva Holiday Village launches its 2011 spectacular the Friday after Thanksgiving, with fireworks and a Gulf-front tree lighting at ‘Tween Waters Inn.
The kickoff weekend offers a second tree lighting on Saturday, at Captiva’s South Seas Island Resort, and Saturday will hold a traditional holiday reading for families. That evening, Captiva Holiday Village has planned a live performance of sunset arias on the beach at ‘Tween Waters Inn. South Seas Island Resort and ‘Tween Waters Inn are both known for their legendary holiday décor and waterfront settings.
Captiva Holiday Village, now in its second year after a very well received 2010 inaugural, is a cooperative event sponsored by hoteliers, merchants, attraction owners and restaurateurs of Captiva Island. “We are well-known as an unparalleled destination for traditional beach vacations,” says Paul McCarthy of Captiva Cruises, “but Captiva Holliday Village is designed to share the totally unique sensation of enjoying a tropical holiday season in a magnificent setting. Captiva puts you in the spirit, but with sand between your toes, and twinkling palm trees. It’s a unique American experience.”
Each specially-themed event weekend, beginning on November 25th and continuing through December 17, will be a fun-filled extravaganza of sight and sound, set against the backdrop of the Gulf of Mexico and nightly sunsets. Visitors to Captiva Island during the event weekends will enjoy everything from a decorated golf cart and lighted boat parades to street dancers. All four weekends of events take place in Captiva’s “Village” center, where its one-of-a-kind colorful restaurants and shops will be festively decorated.
The Village is the heart of the island: a quirky, colorful, pedestrian-friendly hub where people stroll from place to place, enjoying live music, tropical food and drink, and the island’s legendary sunsets. “Captiva’s a wonderful contrast from the hustle and bustle of normal daily life,” says Jeff Shuff, Manager of ‘Tween Waters Inn. “And during the holiday season, it’s a very fun place to be.”
Captiva Island, on the Gulf coast of Florida adjacent to Fort Myers, is regularly featured in newspapers and magazines around the world. The tiny island is known as a destination for celebrities and creative legends. Visitor lodging options include small inns, deluxe resorts, rental homes and condos, and dockage for boats of all sizes.
